Everwhere: One by one... dead
19/01/11 || The Duff
In order to find something about Everwhere, I had to visit a site called Rockassdick. With an apostrophe. From Sweden and labeled melodic death metal, honestly I’d think you’d be losing your time checking them out on such a description. These guys are all about Kreator, vocals and thrash riffs alike to the classic German outfit with a touch of At the Gates/Carcass.
What’s more, this 2010 E.P. of theirs is one of four mini-efforts (two demos “Safe At Last” and “Life and Death” and two E.P.s “Black Dawn” and the currently reviewed) released in the last four years – I feel a need to bring about their history for two reasons, one being the scantiness of this review without and secondly because Googling “Everwhere” will be a waste of your resources otherwise spent listening to classic Kreator and likely to result in specialist scat porn.
Not that these guys have nothing to offer – they’re a good band that I would draw parallel to more thrashy Arch Enemy, more melodious Dew Scented or Carnal Forge (not that I’ve heard much of said bands in many a year); there’s no doubt that the slim-pickin’s track format suits this three-piece (having lost long-time bass player Jherry Karlsson in June of this year) just fine, but without venturing further musically they’ll never get the promotion they may be in need of.
The musicianship is some fine stuff, the songcraft professional and the recording of high value. The name though is a stranger to our community, all of us knowing what happens to strange things if not beaten with sticks, eaten, fucked or pissed on – we promote them directly to stage four, ignore and allow them to die a slow, dishonorable death while we sleep long, comfortable hours. Hmmmm.
All the more a pity because Everwhere are a real cool band; it might just take a full-length for them to be recognized. In the meantime, a lot of their music (if not all of it, haven’t checked) is available for free download at their website (link down below).
